At the Fourth Precept we believe that there is always a better way to work: one where we can be more productive and have more fun; where challenging the status quo is normal; where we can embrace the uncertainty of change, knowing that with careful monitoring it will be greener on the other side.
We do this by working with people to uncover their true values and aspirations; pushing them to believe in more; challenging their perception of reality; and supporting them throughout.
We just happen to have found coaching is the best way to achieve this.
Only by remaining trustworthy and keeping our integrity will Fourth Precept manage to flourish.
Fourth Precept have signed up to the ICF’s Code of Ethics and hold all employees to these ethics in business matters and when dealing with colleagues, the general public and authorities. Therefore our employees, regardless of position in the company, have committed to do more than obey the law: they have each pledged to behave both ethically and responsibly at all times.
Fourth Precept focuses on working with intelligent and conscientious managers and executives seeking to change the way their companies go about work.
We help them align thoughts and goals with their own underlying values so they have more energy and time to focus on the important matters at hand.
John provided coaching, training and facilitation services to a large government client we worked with at Emergn. He maintained an energy and enthusiasm and a focus on agile delivery that rubbed off on the client and made a real difference to their ability to deal with a fast paced, complex and very challenging environment. I would be very happy to hire John again in the future to add real value to my clients.
- Kevin Phillips, Principal Consultant at emergn
John has been with Product Development at Deutsche Telekom for almost two years now. In this time he has been deeply involved in introducing agility here. Through coaching and mentoring and sometimes also just plain advice he helped many individulas here - including myself - becoming agile.
John McFadyen is probably the most knowledgable person I know in the area of agile software development. From personal coaching to changing whole organisations - John is just the right person for all of this.
Without him our organisation and myself would not have been able to move much towards agility.
- Gerald Seggewies, Scrum Master at Deutsche Telekom AG
Working with John McFadyen has always been a trustful and equal relationship.
Coaching has given me someone to reflect on things with; someone to push me harder; to broaden my thinking; and, someone to challenge my habits and whether they are still useful. This past year has led to an increase in my own self-reflection and a different approach to problems. Now, instead of using the same solutions I always have I now look for several different possibilities and choose the best approach.
Coaching has also lead to a change in how I interact with others - I now challenge them as to whether their actions are the best thing to do.

Professional coaching is confidential and focuses on taking action to move forwards. At times to improve your business interests we have to explore more personal aspects of your life. As you know, personal lives have big impacts on professional lives and vice versa. There is also the added benefit that linking personal goals and values with those of the business makes progress in both easier to achieve.
Our programs require an initial commitment of only one month, however we ask that you make a commitment to yourself for 3 months as meaningful results can take time. Many clients choose to extend the relationship, sometimes for several years, but we don’t want you to feel tied in.
Our services are risk-free to you.
If you feel you have not received value in the first month, please contact us for a refund and to cancel future sessions.
We can offer this guarantee because we do a thorough job up front to make sure that we are a match. If, during the discovery session, we feel another professional could better attend to your needs, we would be happy to make a referral.
The common perception is that coaching is a “touchy-feely” discipline, a nice-to-have luxury, and not an important part of business today. Our experiences in coaching people is very different: many have found it invaluable in not only their personal but also professional lives, adding real value to their businesses.
